Professional Recommendations
- Expert Assistance: We highly recommend visiting a professional seamstress or tailor (often found at local dry cleaners). Alternatively, you may have another individual assist you using this guide.
- Gentleman’s Guru Specifics: Please do not use measurements provided by other menswear retailers. Their sizing methods may not align with the specific requirements needed to produce our custom garments.
- Exact Figures Only: Do not add “extra room” or “vanity inches” to your measurements. Providing exact body measurements ensures we can engineer the perfect tailored fit for you.
BODY MEASUREMENT GUIDE
General Tips
- The Two-Finger Rule: Keep the tape snug but not tight; you should be able to fit two fingers behind it.
- Posture: Stand naturally. Do not suck in your stomach or puff out your chest.
- Level Tape: Ensure the tape measure remains parallel to the floor for all horizontal measurements.
Upper Body
- Chest: Measure around the widest part, under the arms and across the shoulder blades.
- Shoulder: Measure from one arm joint, across the back, to the opposite arm joint.
- Sleeve: Start at the shoulder curve, follow the arm down, and end 1″ past the wrist bone.
- Bicep: Measure the widest part of the upper arm while the muscle is relaxed.
- Jacket Length: Measure from where the neck meets the shoulder down to your desired length. (Must be longer than the sleeve measurement).
Lower Body & Torso
- Waist: Measure where your pants naturally sit. Note: This is often different from your retail pant size.
- Belly: Measure 3″ above the belly button, at the natural curve of the torso.
- Hip: Measure the widest part of the hips, including the fullest part of the buttocks.
- Thigh: Measure 2–3″ below the groin area, wrapping fully around the leg.
- Pant Outseam: Measure from the natural waistline down the outside of the leg to your desired hem.
